PHOTOGRAPHY
Silhouettes
In middle school, I bought my first camera with money I had saved up over years and years of birthdays and Christmases. Ever since, my camera has been my favorite travel companion. Over time, my interest in cameras expanded and I also became fascinated with video.
As a filmmaker, I deep dive into characters and tell their stories. As a photographer, I have the ability to shift the focus to a character’s surroundings. With the use of backlight, an environment can become the star. When a light source is placed behind a subject, it’s shape is emphasized as a silhouette. Silhouettes symbolize how one’s surroundings can both literally and figuratively shape their character, dreams, and inspirations. If we would simply take a moment to realize that’s the case, a door to a world of endless possibilities would open.
All of the photographs are placed on a black background to highlight the light in these character’s lives and to draw your attention to the world they exist in.
